Now that we’ve finally got a wedding date, I’m in a rush to get wedding invitations done (more on that soon).
I never did figure out what to do about sending a Save the Date out to our guests until it was too late, so I didn’t end up doing it. I think we’ll be okay; most our friends and family already know the dates, or at least the time of year we were aiming for, so they are able to sort of plan for it. It’s still seven months away too so while the more notice they get the better, I still feel everyone has enough time to make plans.
There are lots of ways to do Save the Dates. Some people send miniature versions of the invites they eventually send.
Some do magnets which is cute (we still have one that’s been on our fridge for over a year now from a friend’s wedding). Some couples doing destination weddings even do the whole sand/seashells/message in a bottle which is really cute (though the postage isn’t cute if you can’t hand-deliver them).
One thing that most Save the Dates have in common, though, is… uh… a date.
I had always thought you needed to include the actual day of the wedding on these things, which is largely why I didn’t send one.
But after reading a lot of forum threads on this I now see that although most people do, some don’t. They just mention a certain week, or even just “a week in April”.
I guess if you’re planning it that far in advance and you want to let people know, there’s no such thing as too soon.
Plus, it sort of like staking your claim on that time of year. After all, is it just me or doesn’t it seems like every other friend of yours is either also planning a wedding or dangerously close to popping the question?!
